ABOUT THE COLLECTION

Dreams keep us sane.

Why do we dream? Do we dream in order to sleep or do we sleep in order to dream? Are dreams instructions from the spiritual world or are they merely a mix of the past, present and future where the brain accumulates while we have a good rest?

These were some of the questions that Aida Saracini was trying to answer for her end exam project at the fashion department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academy.  One dream/nightmare she had, left such an impact on her that she started paying more attention to dreams and tried to figure out how other people experience dreams. Aida strongly believes that dreams are so important, that they keep us sane. “We loose the insanity when we dream” she explains.  Reflecting that, in her collection, she chooses generic garments like: trench coats,

sweaters, pants, and dresses, and transforms them into garments that we can recognize in one way or another, but still are quite different from the way we know them. The usage of fragile fabrics and a drawing-like technique, become quite important when creating a dreamy atmosphere. Aida leaves most of the outfits looking unfinished, since she believes that a dream is never finished but always saved or ruined by the bell, phone or one’s partner’s voice.
