“In the struggle for survival, the fittest win out at the expense of their rivals because they succeed in adapting themselves best to their environment.” Charles Darwin
I understand why a lot of things that I like keep on disappearing, because society does not find them acceptable anymore. But this is closely connected to trends as well. The brains of humans are being fooled by trends. It is the unconscious needs most of the human’s sense to be like the others, to merge into society, to actually make themselves invisible. It is not at all a characteristic of being the strongest, like Darwin said, it is more playing a safe game and being accepted.
What I want to pick up with my collection and encourage are extinct things or things that seem to be fading away. In a way I want to work against trends. But on the other hand I work with them as well. To visualize this in my designs I want to use characteristic features that at times rule trends but as well die out very quickly again too. The silhouettes and shapes of my collection will be based on the constant metamorphosis species seem to be going through. The clothes in themselves are going to be evolving.
