We would like to think that globalisation, the invention of the internet and the advancement of technology has allowed societies, cultures and nations to become more progressive and open-minded to expressing and accepting differences, but with recent events, it seems like the world is moving in the opposite direction where it is becoming more conservative, more nationalistic and intolerant to difference. We are being segregated for being who we are. What’s worse is that technology has made us vulnerable to control from government bodies and people in power. We are monitored using data we provide to social media. We can no longer be ourselves because artificial intelligence knows who we are better than most of the people we interact with. I want people to be able to express themselves again, taking inspiration and references from the 70s and 80s where technology was still underdeveloped and subcultures flourished. You could pick a name, a personality and walk into a club with a crazy outfit and be a star for the night. Nobody would be able to google you to find out who you really were. My collection “JUVENILE ODDITY” gives a fresh and literal twist to classic tailored menswear. An encouragement to do whatever the heck you want and be whoever you want to be despite these terrible times.
