FERRY SCHIFFELERS WINS LICHTING 2018
On Friday the 7th of September, the 25-year old Ferry Schiffelers of AMFI [Amsterdam Fashion Institute] won Lichting 2018, the award for upcoming fashion design talent. In a spectacular runway show, in the middle of Museum square in Amsterdam, 14 fashion graduates presented their graduation collections to Dutch and international fashion professionals. An international panel elected Ferry Schiffelers as the most promising talent of The Netherlands. He won the Lichting 2018 Award to the valuation of €10.000,-, made available by the Meester Koetsier Foundation. Lichting 2018 was made possible by the Park Plaza Victoria Amsterdam.
Collection
With his Défilé De Deuil collection Ferry combines his fascination for rituals around funerals and his love for the feminine beauty. By connecting this vision to Victorian mourning portraits, where widows were portrayed in extremely detailed mourning dresses, he created a modern group portrait where different generations of women display the power of femininity.
International panel
The winner of the Lichting 2018 Award was chosen by a renowned international panel, consisting of Alvise Bullo [Junior Research Manager Creative Talents LVMH Fashion Group], Christopher New [Course Leader BA Fashion Menswear and Fashion Programme Academic Quality Coordinator Central Saint Martins], Filep Motwary [Independent curator and author, photographer, fashion features editor Dapper Dan Magazine], Gry Nissen [Creative Director].
The panel about the winning collection:
“The truth is that the moment the collection was presented to uss, we felt a surge of emotion combined with respect for classic fashion mixed with innovation and a level of professionalism that is unusual for a designer his age. This wil definitely be the first step towards a great future in fashion.”
